How I Wrote It: A Series Celebrating Feminist Authors Featuring Vanessa Holden

In this series we celebrate feminist authors who recently published a book or article.  A 15-20 minute interview with the author about the journey to publication will be followed by Q&A with the audience.

Dr. Vanessa Holden is Associate Professor of History and African American and Africana Studies. In
Surviving Southampton (University of Illinois Press 2021), she explores the contributions that African
American women and children made to the Southampton Rebellion, often called Nat Turner’s Rebellion.

Dr. Elizabeth Williams, Assistant Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, will interview the author.
