Much of my research takes an intersectional approach to explore how the personal experience and public perception of illness, stress, and health are shaped by social relationships and by social statuses such as gender, race, and ethnicity. My research follows three interrelated lines of inquiry: (1) identities, networks, and wellbeing; (2) the association between social contexts and health among Hispanic immigrants; and (3) legitimacy and contested illness. My research leverages a range of data and methodologies, including surveys, survey experiments, in-depth interviews, and participant observations.
