Tomasky Leaders Scholarship Fund

  • Do you want to live an activist life but aren’t sure where to start?
  • Have you ever thought about running for office some day?
  • Would you like to be connected to a nationwide network of activists with similar interests?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, Gender & Women’s Studies can help you to develop the skills to turn your political passions--and what you’re learning in the GWS classroom--into positive action.

GWS is excited to announce the Tomasky Leaders Scholarship Fund for undergraduate University of Kentucky students, named for donor and alum Susan Tomasky ‘74. The scholarship encourages students to engage in politics and public debate, to pursue higher office, and to lead an activist life.

Scholarship recipients, the Tomasky Leaders, will receive funding for registration and travel fees for leadership and activism trainings, seminars, conferences, and programs.

Possible leadership opportunities for students include (but are NOT limited to):

  • Civil Liberties and Public Policy Annual Conference, Hampshire College, Massachusetts
  • Women Leading Kentucky Conference, Kentucky
  • National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, University of Maryland, Maryland
  • National Young Feminist Leadership Conference and Congressional Visit Day, District of Columbia
  • SisterSong Women of Color Conference, New York
  • Empowering Women of Color Conference, University of California Berkeley, California
  • Women of Color STEM Conference, Michigan
  • National LGBTQ College Student Career Conference
